READTrapped on a dead world in his astral form, Arion lies helpless as his ancient mentor battles the Star-Spawn. Readers hit the ground running and never get the chance to get settled in this difficult series debut from co-creators Paul Kupperberg and Jan Duursema.
READWhen Cobra kidnaps a nuclear scientist, an elite counter-terrorist strike force – code-named G.I. Joe – is sent to the rescue. Unfortunately, this debut issue – from the team of Larry Hama, Herb Trimpe and Bob McLeod – is in need of some help itself.
READOn a stormy night, a young man hitches a ride from a vampire – and lives to tell the tale! The lead feature is one of four sub-par stories from the likes of Enrique Nieto, Dick Piscopo and, thankfully, Tom Sutton (who also crafted that excellent cover!)
READThe action heroes of the Silver-Age Charlton universe join together to stop the Manipulator and assorted other big bads. This one-off from the team of Dan St. John and Greg Guler would be an above-average fanzine but falls short as a professional comic-book outing.
READAgainst the backdrop of a peaceful world facing annihilation, the Chief Examiner comes to Earth to steal the Hulk’s power. An early, subpar effort at transmedia, from the team of Bill Mantlo, Mark Gruenwald and John Romita Sr. (working off a concept by John Byrne and game designer Scott Adams).
READOfficers Dave Greenberg and Bob Hantz bust petty crooks by hiding in coat racks and packing cartons. Based on a 1974 movie, there’s not much super to these stories by Marv Channing, Gray Morrow, Frank Thorne and others.
