Synopsis: The Teen Titans race to Paradise Island hoping to save Changeling – and end up battling a Titan of lore!

Writer: Marv Wolfman
Penciler: George Pérez
Embellisher: Romeo Tanghal

Review: It’s a big coincidence that the Titans of Greek myth escape their 30,000-plus-year imprisonment just as DC’s Titans are visiting Paradise Island. But, get past that and this issue is a lot of fun. Writer Marv Wolfman clearly has an affection for Greek mythology and has a blast kit-bashing these characters with the DC toy box. This story also brings the female Teen Titans to the fore, and it’s fascinating seeing them interact with Wolfman’s warrior take on the Amazons of Paradise Island. Throw in strong art from George Pérez, and this one’s a delight.

Grade: A-

Cool factor: New Titans + Old Titans = Plenty of cool.

Collector’s note: According to the Grand Comics Database, there is a 15p British variant of this issue.

Character quotable:‘Man’s world?’ You girls got a hate on for men, or somethin’ ?” – Cyborg, taking in the politics of Paradise Island

A word from the writer/co-creator: “The story … showed the Amazons of Paradise Island used, perhaps for the first time in a very long time, as real warriors and not just mannequins wearing flimsy long white gowns.” – Marv Wolfman, from the “Foreword” for “The New Teen Titans Archives: Volume 2,” 2004
