Title: “First Blood!”
Synopsis: After double-crossing Brother Blood, the Brotherhood of Evil lays siege to Titans Tower in an effort to capture Raven.

Writer: Marv Wolfman
Penciler: George Pérez
Inker: Romeo Tanghal

Review: Given that the previous issue (see review) was almost all transition, The New Teen Titans #29 gets off to a surprisingly slow start. At times, this series gets bogged down by its myriad subplots and has a tendency to slip into melodrama. Do we really need to know the Brotherhood of Evil ran into a stumble or two on its way to attack the Titans? Still, when the battle is finally joined, the Marv Wolfman/George Pérez team delivers some excellent fight choreography with villains ranging from evil to downright creepy. Not the Titans’ best, but still a solid outing.

Grade: B+

Cool factor: Even when The New Teen Titans is slow, George Pérez’s storytelling is amazing.

Collector’s note: According to the Grand Comics Database, there is a 75¢ Canadian variant of this issue. … According to MyComicShop.com, there is also a Mark Jewelers variant.

Character quotable: “My name’s Speedy. But that’s not indicative of  everything I do.” — Speedy, trying out one his classiest pick-up lines
