Rom #26
Published and © by Marvel and Rom © Parker Brothers, January 1982
Title: “Galactus!”
Synopsis: Following the liberation of Galador, Rom must rally the spaceknights once more – against the threat of Galactus!
Writer: Bill Mantlo
Artist (penciler): Sal Buscema
Artist (finisher): Joe Sinnott
Review: Rom is often richer when writer Bill Mantlo weaves his toy-inspired series into the wider fabric of the Marvel Universe. That’s definitely the case here as Galactus comes calling on Galador. While the series as a whole lacks the gravitas of the era’s best titles, it’s always fun to see Rom and company measuring up against familiar challenges. The fact that the spaceknights can hold their own against Terrax helps establish their place in the MU pecking order. The journeyman art from Sal Buscema and Joe Sinnott further burnishes Rom’s place in the middle of Marvel’s early ’80s catalog.
Grade: B-
Cool factor: This series rarely made the A-list, but was never short on cool.
Character quotable: “Galador is no passive planet! It is defended by its champions the spaceknight!” – Javelin, spaceknight
